Electronic Engineering Partners with The Iowa Donor Registry

For years, Electronic Engineering has donated pagers and paging services for families waiting for an organ donation. Now, we are going to take that good work and go even further. We have committed our support as a Corporate Sponsor to the Iowa Donor Registry (IDR). The IDR is Iowa's only organ, tissue and eye donation registry operated by the Iowa Donor Network, a non-profit organization that operates as the primary contact for organ, tissue and eye donation services for the state of Iowa.

"This is an organization that we're all very proud to be associated with," said Mark Clark, President of Electronic Engineering. "We're going to work with them to make a difference in the lives of Iowans. Not only by keeping them connected using wireless technology, but by helping them tell their story in the communities we serve throughout the state."

The number of people needing transplants is staggering. Thousands more people in the United States are waiting for transplants than live in the Iowa communities of Council Bluffs, Dubuque, Iowa City or Waterloo. Increasing the awareness and acceptance of organ and tissue donation is essential.

"We are thrilled that Electronic Engineering is committed to the Iowa Donor Registry," said Paul Sodders, Public Affairs Manager for the Iowa Donor Network. "With Electronic Engineering's help, we will indeed save more lives by finding donors in Iowa for those recipients who are waiting for a life-saving gift."

Here are some facts that got our attention:

  • More than 90,000 Americans currently wait for a life-saving organ transplant. Over 400 of those people are Iowans.

  • Sixteen people on the national waiting list die every day. About 6,000 people die every year because there are not enough donated organs.

  • Up to 50 people in need can benefit from one person's decision to be an organ and tissue donor.
